Summer Survival 101

Summer… probably my least favourite season by a mile. The heat, the sweat, the chaffing of my thighs every time I dare wear a dress or shorts…! On the other hand, I get to do a lot of things I never get the time to do during Winter for various reasons: weather, time, money and a lot more.

Below are a list of things I do to survive summer, which I hope will help others. Sit back and enjoy!

20 Signs You Love TV Series More Than People

Another relatable list of things you know you are and cannot help admit to but it’s okay because we are all these kinds of people who makes us human so it’s okay.

Did I say it’s okay?

The Leibster Award!

I was sick since Wednesday, which is why I was MIA on all my social media – that would be my Facebook page/group/personal profile, Instagram and such. But I’m feeling better because, guess what? I got nominated for my SECOND blogging award, the Leibster!

I got nominated by the lovely Tracy (hint: if you’re into book/series/video game reviews, give her a follow!).

Rules are simple: answer 11 questions, come up with 11 questions of your own, nominate 11 people. But I’m ignoring the last part.

So without further ado, here are my answers to Tracy’s questions!

Juggling Things

No, I’m not joining a circus as a juggler. This month, life really took a toll with the amount of things that have been happening in my life: courses, personal matters, work stuff, family stuff, assignments, training for a new job and so much more.

But I got through it like a champ, I reckon.

Exams

6 exams. And two assignments. I haven’t had an exam since last year for my VET Secretarial Course, which was just one exam, but having SIX in a matter of three weeks is too overwhelming for me.

As at the time the post is published, I’ve only done 3 out of 6, and received an assignment result… a C! Which for me is… WOW.

One Year of Blogging!

12th May was my blog’s first birthday. I celebrated it with a few special posts – three to be exact.

My 1st Year of Blogging in Numbers

How I get Traffic on my Blog

I was also nominated for my first blogging award!

It’s OK to…

  • … doubts but still choose to go after what feels right to you.
  • … give up something other people say is really important that is no longer important to you.
  • … love people who are still trying to learn how to love you the way you should be loved.
  • … refuse to worry about tomorrow.
  • … believe even though you can’t explain why and what it is you believe in.
  • … choose inner peace over proving your point.
  • … to completely reinvent yourself.
  • … be confused and patient.
  • … quit doing something that drains your positive energy.
  • … only see the good in other people.
  • … spend the day dreaming.
  • … take time away from the things you “have to do” in order to have more time to yourself.
  • … look at things from a different perspective.
  • … forgive everyone – even those who don’t deserve it.
  • … admit you need to improve things about yourself.
  • … learn by making wrong turns and mistakes.
  • … change your mind.
  • … treat yourself to indulgences from time to time.
  • … take the day off, the month off or even years off.
  • … explain to people exactly how you feel.
  • … not know the answer.
  • … need and seek help.
  • … start over.
  • … desire “Something More” out of life.
  • … be vulnerable.
  • … go through a tough time.
  • … slow down.
  • … search for your purpose.
  • … embrace uncertainty.
  • … take baby steps.
  • … believe anything is possible.
  • … have to figure out who you really are.

#ClaireNotes – April 2017

April has come to a close, which means we get to see what my month was like! Usually, I jot down three goals with hopes to achieve them, or highlight an event that took place, but this month was uneventful apart from two occasions, so instead of three goals I’ll be listing to.

Read along!

Back on the Treadmill! [Achieved]

This didn’t feel too hard to do as I’d wanted to go back to the gym for months and months. My boyfriend was the one who encouraged me to do so, but on one condition: he was going to be my workout buddy!treadmill2

Being back to the place where I felt most at ease felt sooooo good! One thing was missing though: the usual gym instructor/receptionist, who sadly passed away a few months ago. He’d usually greet me with a smile and would give me a tip or two while correcting my posture (one of my insecurities).

But putting all that aside, I enjoyed every second of it. I had my boyfriend to encourage me and praise my hard work (which I think wasn’t my hardest). I hope I’ll lose some weight while I’m at it! *wink wink*u

My first event! [Achieved]

I’ve already written a post about this, which you can read by clicking this, but here I will speak more about this on a personal level. I went there so nervous I was stinkingblogging-employees1-300x200 more of sweat that my macaroon-scented body mist spray. I arrived at the Beauty Plus store clueless and shaking, but thankfully I was greeted nicely and with open arms. I reunited with an old friend, met a new one and recognised a few bloggers I fangirl about (Alex, this is meant for you, you beautiful person ❤ !)

Overall, I had a lot of fun. I bought a LOT of products and also received an advice or two from a pro makeup artist!

First anniversary with my boyfriend ❤9c5f45042c29dfcf4c93182a5ec748b3

I’ve been waiting for this day since our first date… or first year together coming to a close ❤

I met him last year in mid-March while I was in the beginning of my recovery. I didn’t feel like a stranger around him. We talked and talked and talked a bit more… with a few laughs along the way. Our first day was one of the best nights of my life, because I knew I met Him. The One.

For our anniversary, we went on with our day: work and then gym session, and then we went for a romantic dinner at Mamma Mia restaurant.

What’s in store for me next month?

Stay tuned for my April Notes! XX

Things I Would Like to Do In The Future

Psychology Course

During my year-long stint at University, I studied Psychology for two semesters. I enjoyed every second of it… well, I love Psychology in general; I spent more time outside reading or surf-shopping with my classmates from my course than actually paying attention to the lectures since all the notes were sent to us by email.

Just a few days ago, I was looking for some things and I stumbled upon these Psychology notes, and it made me feel nostalgic of the one-year stint.

In a forum for the local MHA, someone wanted suggestions on Psychology courses, and a friend of mine said that she is attending one and that is is really interesting. And that triggered my sudden interest in sitting for a Psychology course… at least on Intermediate level… for now.

The brain is a fascinating thing isn’t it?

Voluntary Work

I’ve always been a keen voluntary worker, but never really found the time to do much voluntary work. Last time I did any type for voluntary work was for a school project which was worth almost half my grade. I once did voluntary work at the Notarial Archives in Valletta.

But other than that, nothing.

Now that I have three whole months in summer of not working, I decided on doing more voluntary work if I don’t manage to find a job for the summer, and decided on two organisations to give  helping hand to:

  • MSPCA – Malta Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Everyone knows I love animals, particularly dogs, and I want this experience to serve me for a future of owning a dog myself)
  • Richmond Foundation – a nonprofit dealing with mental health (now you know why I want to volunteer with them).change-the-world-1

Make-Up Course

I buy lots of make-up. I actually made a post about my make-up collection, which has since expanded spectacularly… and yet I have no clue how to apply eyeliner without looking borderline Panda.

So that’s why I think a makeup course would be good for me. I know several make-up artists who make the most BEAUTIFUL make-up, and I want to be able to do that too!

(Just nothing too extravagant. As if I want to look like the Mad Hatter!)

I mean, LOOK AT THIS BEAUTIFUL MAKE-UP!

UPDATE: I WILL BE DOING A 3-DAY MAKEUP SEMINAR TAUGHT BY ONE OF MY FRIENDS, WHO WAS HERSELF TAUGHT BY LOCALLY RENOWNED ARTIST SHASHA FABRI AAAAAAAAAAAA!

Start a Nonprofit for People Without a Voice

I don’t mean people who cannot talk, but who think they are alone in the world with their problems, no matter how little or severe they are. It could be on mental health, traumatic experiences, eating disorders, sexuality… anything the world exploits and tosses aside.

Write a Self-Help Book

The goal of all future goals. I’ve alway been keen on literature and the skill of writing. I remember my earliest memory of writing a story. It was about a boy whose toys come to life and — no, not Toy Story — they take over his family and hold them hostage. Now before you say anything… I was actually around eight years old when I wrote this. EIGHT. And already writing about hostage situations! I know, I know… weird, and sad… but I always had a wild imagination ahead of me.

(It still precedes me to this day, but anyways).

But this time I don’t want to base myself on fiction, but more of a first-hand experience type of writing.

A self-help book.

With a LOT of first-hand experience to write a freaking saga, I want to put all my life together in a book to help people of all genders, ages, religions and sexual orientation. No judgement. Just guidance and illumination through writing.

And guess what…?

I’VE ALREADY STARTED IT! Yes, that’s right! I’m in the process of writing my first (and hopefully not last) book! I already have a photographer and illustrator on board… and they’re both survivors like myself! Couldn’t have asked for anyone better than them!

So stay tuned for a book with my name written on it! AAAAAAAAAA!

So these are my future goals. I might update this post if the need arises. Let me know in the comments what YOUR goals for the future are.

That’s it from me, stay strong beautifuls x

What I Got For My Birthday

I had THE best birthday in my entire life. Work greeted me with happy smiles and cheerfulness, the kids too, and I saw my BFF and we chilled with some takeout pizza and Harry Potter. Then I spent the weekend with my boyfriend at a hotel, a treat for both our birthdays (his is a day before mine).

Wondering what I got for this special day? Well, you’re in the right place then…

giftvoucher

First present I got was from my colleagues, which was a EUR15 voucher from The Body SHop. They know how obsessed I am with skincare and cruelty-free products, so this present was perfect for me.

pictures-4017

No, unfortunately I didn’t get a chubby, ginger, bowtie-wearing, alcohol-drinking cutie of a cat, but I did get money from my parents and Nonna. So we can call it a win still.

My sister and boyfriend got me this cute navy and brown satchel bag from Accessorize. The bag is quite spacious and has white blots all over it.

From my bestfriend I got not one… not two!… but THREE PRESENTS. Which I was not expecting.

original_retro-peg-board

First thing I opened was this pegboard with letters and symbols. She was going to buy me a lightboard from New Look, and luckily while we were in the store, I pointed out that I had one but with 2 layers instead of 3.

dogs-on-instagram-cover

Second gift I opened was this book called Dogs of Instagram. I love dogs. I love Instagram. The result? This great gift. Can you tell I’ve known this person for over a DECADE?!

Last gift I got from her was this beautiful Unicorn Trinket Dish from Sass & Belle. It’s a nice touch to my room, which is becoming more ‘me’.

Last but certainly not least are the gifts from my boyfriend and his parents…

His parents gave me this set of six silver bracelets with very light blue gems from River Island. I don’t know how they knew that this was my current favourite colour, but they nailed this gift.

Then there’s my amazing boyfriend ❤

First up is my birthday present, which is this dystopian card game called ‘Coup’. It’s not the usual present one would expect. But I love card games, especially ones where you need to use your brain. And I love anything dystopian: movies, TV shows, books, documentaries, cultures… everything basically. And now I love this game!

71ailw4ifql-_sy355_

This is my V-Day gift, which is a Me to You mug-and-bear set. I loved this gift more than expected because I know my boyfriend is quite insecure about relationships and feelings, but the fact that he did the effort alone made this gift special. And I love teddy bears, and Me to You things.

So this was what I got for my birthday/V-day. These gifts really showed how much these people love me and care for me… and also know me more than I do sometimes.

Next post will be my February notes, so stay tuned for that at the end of the month!
