#ClaireNotes – August 2017

There were two major things that happened during the month of August, one of which is probably the opportunity of a lifetime…!

#IamARTEMISIA

Hands down the biggest opportunity to date involving my blog is when I was asked by the Network of Young Women Leaders to take part in an exhibition in collaboration with the amazeball that is Steven Levi Vella called #IamARTEMISIA. For those who don’t know who Artemisia is, you can read her story here.

Being ong of the 100 ‘Remarkable Women’ that came from all backgrounds and occupations made me so proud of being alive in that moment. I also struck a conversation with one of my inspirations, Tamara Webb, who’s a popular local photographer/fitness queen, who was also part of the exhibition herself. Check out the selfie I took with her here!

Retail no MORE!

I know what you’re thinking… wasn’t it just last month that you started working in retail? And you already gave up?! Let me stop you there: I haven’t given up. I needed some money to help me with my car lessons, which are soon coming to an end as I will be applying for both the theory and practical tests very soon, and the rest of the money that I was saving over the past several months is going towards the Car Fund (ie. to buy my first car!)

But a lot happened… I was working during the day from 8am til 1pm with children. Okay, so that’s only 5 hours for you, but imagine five hours of running after 6-year old children who think you are a zombie and so keep pretend-punching you all over your body to pretend-kill you.

Yeah. Thought so.

So after a month, I had to say goodbye to the staff I worked with, who were super nice and understanding about my situation. I explained that the day job had to take priority over the evening job because it could boost my full-time job résumé.

Dogs and Horses

If I had to describe Thursday 24th August on one word, it would be: HEAVEN. I had an outing with my students and two other classes at the Dog & Mount Services, located in Mosta and Marsa respectively.

Those who know me know I am OBSESSED with animals, especially dogs. I never had a dog as a pet, but my bestfriend has had around six during our 12-year friendship, and I get along with them really well (except for Satan, hehehehe), and 50% of my Instagram feed is dogs and baby animals, so… yeah.

Anyways, back on topic: we saw all the service dogs there, most of which were super nice, and then two policemen showed us some tricks… and I managed to take a few photos of the lovely dogs in action! The students enjoyed this a lot too.

Afterwards, we went to Marsa to visit the police horses in their stables… and I managed to feed two of the horses! And, while there, they had around five dogs (not police dogs, they were found roaming the streets and the Police there decided to keep all five!) and they were so friendly that none of the children were scared of them. They actually played with them the whole time we were there!

So this is what happened during the month of August! September is going to be a good one from what I can sense, so follow my blog and subscribe to my mailing list to hear about the rest of the months and my other posts!

#ClaireNotes… London Edition! – July 2017

London baby!

My most anticipated holiday to date has to be this one. It had been planned and booked for over a year! One week in London, jam-packed with fantastic events and banter (knowing me) with my bestfriend of 12 years.

The downside? Being at the airport at 4 in the morning. Yeah, I am not a morning person. But there were some upsides!: seven days with my bestfriend in the whole world. And shopping. And musicals. And souvenirs!

BFF’s Birthday in London

Image result for cursed child

Why the Cursed Child poster, you may be wondering…? Well, because we booked to see both parts of the play on her birthday!

I cannot share any details on the play itself (#keepthesecrets), but let’s just say it was beautiful and the transitions from one scene to another were out of this world and… dare I say… MAGICAL!

Brighton

The day before Cursed Child we went to Brighton. We attended an event called Pop Up Pug Café which you can assume what it was all about.

After the Café we caught the bus to the Royal Pavilion…

Me

… and then headed to the amazing Brighton Pier, which was a lifelong dream of mine to visit.

You can tell the weather wasn’t in our favour, but we still had the greatest time!

#ClaireNotes – July 2017

Back in Retail

sales-assistant

This was unexpected for me, but I’m back in retail… part-time. Well, just for now. I’m working in a popular clothes’ shop and I’ve been doing it since the beginning of July with hopes to earn a little extra on the side to get myself my first car.

I never thought I would be back working in sales and retail. I was done with that part-time job for almost two years, but here I am… and I love it!

School in Summer…?

As if working in retail was not enough, I also have another part-time: a child supporter in one of the children centres for the next two months. I’d applied ages ago, but was only chosen (I was 62nd) Thursday 6th, and had to go sign a contract on my only day off that week: Friday.

This is my first time working in a summer school, and I hope I get to  grow more as an LSA.

Making up my Mind

Image result for over thinking drawing

This month was very tough, as I’d found out I won’t be working in the same school again. The past two years were great and I fell in love with both the place and the workers there. What’s done is done now, and I need to move forward.

I applied for a few more jobs, some of which are not education-related, and I am still to decide what I want career-wise. I have put a lot of thinking these past few days since I got the bad news, but I don’t talk about it much with others. My mind is about to explode, and I speak very little about it.

But I’m doing okay… I’ve made my decision and am feeling much better now.

A Leap of Faith: Things are Changing…

“Clean” Eating

For some people, eating clean means being healthy and cutting down on junk food and add up the fruits and vegetables. Since I’m a junkie at heart and have probably had a total of five vegetables in my 23 years of life, I am taking a different approach to this whole clean eating thing: incorporating more and more vegetables in my diet until I can ultimately limit my junk food intake. SOunds easy? It’s not. Not for me, at least. But I’m trying, which counts.

Internship

After being contacted by Comino Magazine to be a regular collaborator, I had to accept the opportunity. “But what will happen to your blog?” It will still be here. “And you?” Yes, me too.

This is not only an opportunity to help a fellow blogger, but also myself to be a better writer and get my work out there, which is outside of my sassy, realistic and blunt blog.

New Job?

The question mark is so important in this case which is why I decided to underline it. With the driving exams (practical and theory) fast approaching, which means I need to save up for a car from now (or should I have started before?!?!), I decided to get a part-time job for the summer, as a Fashion Advisor (fancy) in a popular retail shop in a popular mall in Malta. I started this week, and so far, I love it!

… But wait! I might have a day job as a Support Worker for children during summer.

Shigh. So many things, so little time.

Vitamins

This was an unexpected thing, but I’ve started taking fish oil vitamins. They were recommended to me by my psychiatrist to help with my concentration and memory. I’m going on week three and I’ve seen a mental transformation in relation to memory and how I process thoughts. I’ve taken vitamins before but they made me more tired and physically sick, but these are really good so far! I am taking one capsule of Pharmepa RESTORE | 1000 mg pure EPA omega-3 fish oil a day.

One Year Later… Progress

Welcome back to my blog! It’s been just over a day since I’ve last published a post, which I think you may have been aware… I’ve been really active, planning, writing, editing and publishing posts daily. Like, every single day for almost a week.

Apart from having summer holidays, which means I have a lot of time on my laptop, there has been some changes in the past one year or so: physical and mental. And I will be highlighting said changes and how YOU can change your life to the better. So grab a cuppa and a cushion, and enjoy!

New Beginnings?

Image result for new beginnings

New beginnings… June was all about many changes in my life. A leap of faith, you may call it (will be doing a future post on this to go into further detail so eyes peeled for that one!).

I decided to take my physical and mental health more seriously than ever. With summer coming round, I had more time to kill, so I decided to rejoin the gym for three more month. And the progress is there but ever-so slightly.

I also took it upon myself to upgrade my blog plan from free to premium, which comes with more features, and will be working more on my blog than last year. We’re talking collaborations, guest writers, reviews and a lot more!

So you might ask why I have a question mark in the heading… Well, my job is on the line. As of now, writing the post and time of publishing, I still don’t know whether I will be employed for another year or not. It breaks my heart but has to be done (policies and whatever); fingers crossed I get chosen and spend another year with amazing colleagues!

Mental Health First Aid Course!

I have written about this a few days ago. I wanted to do something like this for the longest time, and I finally did it. For the next three years, I am a certified Mental Health First Aider!

The course was spread across two days, six hours each. For me, that was a short amount of time to cover mental health, so I hope the Richmond Foundation does more related courses in the future which are longer.

Summertime Happiness!

Image result for what time is it summertime

Summer holidays started June 23rd at 1pm for me. I spent the whole day at a staff evaluation, where we engaged in a scavenger hunt around the beautiful city of Birgu in Malta. It was so much fun and we had a great laugh!

Some of the tasks we had to do included reenacting a marriage which featured a stranger as a bride or groom (in our team’s case we had two strangers for each role!), singing the Maltese national anthem holding the Maltese flag, taking selfies with as many strangers as possible and also doing the Harlem Shake.

We had points deducted from our team for arriving late at the meeting spot, and came in at second place. Sans the point deduction we would have been crowned winners!

So this was the month of June in a nutshell. Next month will be a special edition of #ClaireNotes because it will be all about LONDON! Really excited about this, and will probably be a whole bunch of places I’ve been to as opposed to sticking to just three goals, so stay tuned for that!
